About Us
A Little History
Reverend Mert McMahon celebrated the first Mass in the new church on February 4, 1968. In November, Archbishop Thomas A. Donnellan celebrated the official dedication of St. Mark Catholic Church. Glenmary Mission priests served St. Mark from the time of the Churchs dedication until 1992 when St. Mark became an Archdiocesan parish.
Many religious have served St. Marks parishioners. Two Sisters of Notre Dame, Sister Catherine Concannon and Sister Mary Bean, began ministering to the social and religious needs of our community in 1970. Sister Mary Burke arrived in 1980 and established our formal religious education program.
In the past ten years, our parish community has grown with the arrival of many Hispanic families. In 1990, Father Alex Keenan began celebrating Mass in Spanish. Hispanic Apostolate Sister Martha Herrera, R.F.R., came to serve the Hispanic community five years later. She laid the groundwork for religious education and a youth group for our young Hispanic parishioners.
We now have a combined ethnic community of over 500 families. Our staff has grown to six people to support this large and diverse community.
